Our Values
Doing this the right way.
Adoption is beautiful, and it is also serious. We want to walk this path with our eyes wide open, in a way that centers expectant mothers and honors every child's story.
Why private, and not an agency
We spent a long time researching before we chose our path. What we found was a system that, in many places, does a lot of good, and in some places, has a pattern of behavior that we cannot ignore. Not every agency, but enough that we are choosing not to work with one.
Some agencies use high-pressure tactics, financial incentives, and heavily scripted counseling that can steer expectant mothers toward placement before they have had a real chance to consider every option. In some cases, mothers have shared that they felt rushed, isolated from family, or led to believe placement was their only choice. That is not the kind of story we ever want to be part of.
Instead, we are pursuing ethical private adoption with the guidance of an experienced adoption attorney. That means slower, more personal, and completely centered on the expectant mother's timeline and choices, not ours.
What ethical means to us
Support, not persuasion
We never want a mother to feel like she has to place her baby because she lacks resources. If support is what she needs, support is what we want to help her find, no strings attached.
Choice rooted in life stage
We hope to grow our family through a mother who feels, in her own words and her own timing, that motherhood does not align with the season of life she is in.
Honest, unpressured relationships
No scripts, no gatekeeping, no rushed decisions. Open, semi-open, or closed, whatever an expectant mom feels is best for her and her baby is what we will honor.
Transparency about our journey
We are pursuing private adoption with the help of an ethical adoption attorney, not an agency. We are willing to talk openly about our reasoning with anyone considering this path.
A note to any expectant mom reading this
We do not want to adopt a baby because a mother cannot afford diapers, or a car seat, or a place to live. If that is the only reason placement is on the table, we would rather help her find what she needs to parent, if that is what her heart is telling her to do.
Alexis is happy to help connect you with county and state resources here in Pennsylvania, and she voluntarily offers grant writing services to help you access funding opportunities you may qualify for. There is no cost, no expectation, and no obligation. You do not have to be considering adoption to reach out.
If you are considering placement because motherhood truly does not fit the season of life you are in, we would be honored to talk with you too. On your timeline, in your words, with as much or as little contact as you feel is right.
